21 September-Ryder Cup

The Ryder Cup is a golf competition for men which is played between teams from Europe and the United Sates. The competition, which was first held officially in 1927, takes place on a biennial basis at venues alternating between Europe and the United States. In 2018 the Ryder Cup will be held at the Albatros Course at Le Golf National in Paris, France. It was held at the K Club in Ireland in 2006.

The Ryder Cup was initially contested between the United States and Great Britain. From 1953 the competition was held between a team from Great Britain and Ireland and a team from the United States. In 1979 the team from Great Britain and Ireland was expanded to include golfers from continental Europe.

The official opening ceremony for the 2006 Ryder Cup was held at the K Club, Straffan, Co Kildare, Ireland in the year 2006 On This Day.
