Paul McCartney is a renowned singer-songwriter, musician and composer. He is a former member of the world famous rock group the Beatles. McCartney is one of the most popular solo performers of all time.

James Paul McCartney, was born in Liverpool, England in 1942. He was interested in music from an early age. His father, who was a part-time musician encouraged him to try out several instruments. McCartney’s mother Mary was a nurse who died when he was 14 years old.

McCartney met John Lennon at a church festival in Liverpool where they were both performing. Shortly thereafter he joined Lennon’s band, The Quarrymen. They became the band’s songwriters. Together they went on to become one of the most celebrated song-writing partnerships of the 20th century. The Quarrymen would eventually become the Beatles in August 1960 and would be joined by George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.

When the Beatles disbanded in 1970 McCartney initially pursued a solo career before forming the Wings in 1971. During the 1970’s The Wings had several hits and won two Grammy Awards before disbanding in 1981. McCartney continued to compose play and record new music and during the following years collaborated with several other artists and musicians.

Paul McCartney, recognised as one of the most successful performers and composers of all time, continues to tour and perform. He has indicated that he does not intend to retire. He has been the recipient of multiple awards and was knighted for his services to music in 1997.
