Texting is one of the most popular ways in which people stay in contact. Since it first began in 1992 it has become a universal method of communication. Today almost 200,000 text messages are sent every second.
The first text message was ‘Merry Christmas’. It was sent by Neil Papworth in Newbury, Berkshire, England over the Vodafone network. It was sent to the mobile phone of Richard Jarvis who was a director of Vodafone. Since mobile phones did not have a keyboard at the time the message was sent from a computer.
