20 July-Kilkenny Home Rule Club

The Kilkenny Home Rule Club is situated on Johns Quay in Kilkenny City, Ireland. Home Rule clubs were established in every county in Ireland during the 19th century to promote the Irish Home Rule movement. The Home Rule Association which aspired to self-government within Ireland was formed by Isaac Butt in 1870.

In 1894 the Kilkenny Home Rule club was founded as part of the national movement. Today it is the only such club still in existence. However it is now a social club and has no affiliation to any political party. Women were not admitted to the Home Rule Club until 1989. The venue is used for meetings and parties and has a bar and recreation rooms.
