Pádraig Harrington is a professional golfer who is a native of Dublin, Ireland. He was the winner of the Open Championship (British Open) in 2007. He was also won the Open Championship and PGA Championship in 2008. The Open Championship is one the four major championships in professional golf. It is held each year in mid-July in the United Kingdom.
The Open Championship was played for the first time at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland on October 17th 1860. The tournament has been played every year since that date with the exception of:
- 1871 when it was cancelled as no trophy was available
- 1915–19 due to World War I
- 1940–45 due to World War II.
When Pádraig Harrington won the Open Championship in 2007 he became the first Irish person to do so, since Fred Daly won the tournament in 1947.
