Boléro is an orchestral piece composed by the French composer Maurice Ravel. Premiered in 1928, it is widely regarded as his most famous musical composition. The composer of several orchestral works and the ballet Daphnis et Chloé, Ravel is the most popular of all French composers.
Maurice Ravel was born Joseph Maurice Ravel in Ciboure in south western France in 1875. His interest in music was encouraged by his parents from a young age. He was admitted to the Paris Conservatoire at the age of 14. At the Conservatoire he composed renowned works such as Jeux d’eau in 1901 and the Miroirs in 1905. Apart from Boléro Ravel’s later works include Le Tombeau de Couperin and La Valse.
