Reader’s Digest is a monthly magazine which gives a summarised version of articles from other sources. The magazine has its headquarters in New York City but is published in more than seventy countries around the world. The magazine which is compact in size is also published in Braille.

Reader’s Digest was founded by DeWitt Wallace and his wife, Lila Acheson. Wallace had been wounded while serving with the US Army in France during World War 1. Whilst recuperating in a French hospital he began reading magazines. When he returned to the US he decided to publish a magazine which would cover a wide variety of subjects.

The first edition of the magazine was published in 1922. Its popularity grew rapidly and it was the best-selling consumer magazine in the USA until 2009. It has a global circulation of over 10 million and is sold in more than 70 countries around the world.
