Richard Chenevix Trench was a native of Dublin. He was an archbishop, poet and philologist. Trench was one of the co-creators of the Oxford English Dictionary. The other two, Herbert Coleridge, and Frederick Furnivall were British. The Oxford English Dictionary was first published on February 1st 1884.
Richard Chenevix Trench was born in Dublin in 1807. He was educated in England and worked there as a clergyman until 1864. Trench served as Archbishop of Dublin and Primate of Ireland from 1864 to 1884. The Church of Ireland was disestablished during his time as Archbishop.
The Oxford English Dictionary is regarded as the authority and the main historical dictionary on the English language. The second edition was published in 1989. It provides the reader with the meaning history and pronunciation of 600,000 words. Work on the third edition of the Dictionary is currently underway.
